ICT CA Tech Article 2
This blog post is a summary of a comparison article between the
Samsung galaxy S 3 and the LG Optimus G. These two smartphone giants will be
compared in the following categories;
-Size
-Appearance
-Display
-Operating System
-Processor
-Storage
-Camera
-Battery
-Overall winner
Size is quite an important factor to take into account when buying
a phone, too small and you run the risk of having your chunky fingers press off
every letter on the keyboard except the one you need, too big and it could
make holding and operating the phone on a daily basis a chore. These two phones
are actually almost the same when it comes to the screen size with the
Galaxy S 3 coming in at 4.8" and the Optimus G clocking in at 4.7"
which isn't a huge difference for most people. The real difference between the
two comes in the Optimus' one inch less of diagonal screen space which means
that the screen is actually wider and more square, this isn't necessarily
negative but if you have smaller hands then it could be awkward when trying to
use it with one hand. There is also a difference in the thickness and weight of
the smartphones with the Galaxy 3 being thinner and lighter, while this can be
advantageous in some cases most of the time it just makes the phone seem cheaper.
The Optimus is heavier and feels more brick-like but at the same time it feels
like a more expensive piece of hardware.
When it comes to the Appearance it's a hands down winner for the Samsung
Galaxy s 3, from a distance it looks glossy and futuristic but up close the
plastic texture makes it seem cheaper and with less production value but in
comparison to the Optimus G however it is a marvel of modern technology.
The Optimus g is clunky awkward and not very well put together, the fitting is
good but not great by any standard, (both fail when compared to the iPhone 5 ,
just saying).
The LG wins this battle with its 1280 X 768 resolution display it
blows the Galaxy s 3 out of the water. The superAMOLED penile display on the S
3 is disappointing but is somewhat countered by the fact that its lack of
resolution isn't as noticeable because the screen is so dense. While the
contrast is better on the S3 the brightness is much lower than the Optimus G.
Both phones run the android operating system but the main
difference between them is between functionality and style, the Galaxy s 3 is
clean and works well but the Optimus is more customizable with
an interchangeable drop down menu and plenty of space for applications
this one is better suited to those who like things done their way.
These titans of the smartphone industry are easily a generation
apart when it comes to processing power. The LG Optimus G utilizes the new
generation Qualcomm Krait which is one of the most cutting edge processing technologies
available for smatphones or any mobile devices for that matter. The LG can be
anywhere between 20% and 150% faster than the Galaxy s 3 depending on what
you're doing which is outrageous when you consider it.
When it comes to a storage comparison
between these two models its an immediate stalemate, both have a 16GB internal
storage with expandable memory so either way these two are evenly matched.
For me personally (and a lot of
other people) the camera is one of the biggest factors to take into
consideration when looking at these phones. The Optimus has a 13mp camera but
even though there are more pixels the quality of the photos are not as good
because of the screen and lens positioning. The Galaxy S 3 has one of
if not the best camera of all current smartphones in my opinion with its 8mp
cheap rear camera and 1.9MP front facing camera both being capable of producing
stellar photos.
Battery life is important for all users
as the very point about a mobile device is that it is mobile and not plugged in
charging most of the day, unfortunately the LG Optimus g can have a good
battery life once you have altered the settings to "Eco" mode at the
cost of some processing power otherwise you will find yourself running to your
nearest charger before your phone dies frequently. The battery on the Galaxy S3
is fantastic and can be optimised through settings or applications to be even
longer.
Overall: Nobody can say that
this was a one-sided contest as both smartphones excel in certain
areas but fail in others. In my opinion overall the Samsung Galaxy S3 takes the
prize over the LG Optimus, it is far superior in most categories excluding the processor
and display but makes up for it in being sleeker and more stylish
