ICT CA Tech Article 1
This is an article discussing the comparisons between Apple iPhone
5 and Samsung's Galaxy note 2. In this post I will attempt to add my own
review/summary of the topic giving my own thoughts and feelings .Right at
the beginning it is detailed that you will have to save up to buy
these phones unless you have a spare 500 Euro sitting about the house, these
are expensive Smartphones but they are top of the range, they cannot be matched
by their cheaper imitators.
The first thing to be compared are the operating systems on each device,
the Galaxy note 2 boasts Android's 4.1 "jellybean" whereas Apple has
iOS 6. ios 6 is characterized as smooth, reliable and user friendly with
an app store that is very polished. Jellybean on the other hand is evolving
more rapidly with every update and serious strides are being made with each
update to both the user interface and efficient performance.
The Android device, while not being extremely user friendly is the
better option for those who know what they are actually doing, the option of
having a home screen that you can completely customize with one touch
"widgets" is very attractive to some users. The home screen on the
iPhone 5 is simple to use and easily navigated to find any app you have ,
through the search bar or sorted categories.
One thing Androids do fall short on is their firmware updates ,
while they do carry significant alterations they can be few and far
between with some people having to wait weeks or months depending on the
device, Apple always gives the option to update as soon as it is released no
matter what the device.
Apple does over complicate things however when
any sort of data altering task has to be done, whether you want to delete
songs, move them or add them the iPhone had to be plugged into your own tunes
and the change has to be made from there, with Android devices, on the other
hand any change can be made there and then on the Smartphone with no outside
program needed, the open source nature of Jellybean also means that users can
create mods for the Smartphone and allow them to be used by anyone around the
world.
Apple undoubtedly beats the Galaxy Note 2 when it comes to
build quality, each cut, bend and screw is completed to perfection and the
design looks and feels like the future and the actual quality of the parts used
is a testament to the balance one can achieve between build cost and quality.
Even though the Galaxy note 2 feels a little cheaper its features and
specifications are much better than the iPhone's, the note 2 has a 5.5 inch
screen with twice the RAM and twice the processor cores as the iPhone, the
computing power of the note 2 is crazy making the iPhone quake in its boots,
the iPhone has its brand new retina display but the Android only has its HD
display. The iPhone comes in 16 , 32 and 64 GB of memory whereas the Note 2 has
an SD memory card slot capable of taking any size SD memory card.
Both smartphones have an 8 megapixel camera on the back
and the iPhone has a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera but is outdone by the
Note 2's 1.9 front facing camera.
To get the Samsung galaxy Note 2 unlocked it will
cost you $650 while the unlocked iPhone will set you back $870.
In my opinion I would recommend the Iphone to
anyone who likes a smooth device and will only use it for its main specified
functions or just likes to say that they bought an iPhone 5.
I would recommend the Galaxy Note 2 to anyone
who knows their hardware and likes to mess around with firmwares, mods or other
more technologically advanced settings.
Interesting article Eoin. Good choice choosing that article many people don't realise that android is just as good as iphone. :)
